Habitat restoration/ Working parties |
|
While many areas in our parks are thoroughly developed (e.g. flower beds) there are a number of wilder places. We are working with L.B.Bromley Countryside Service to develop management plans for each of these sites. Guided by these plans, either L.B.Bromley contractors or in some cases our Friends group will be maintaining these areas appropriately. These wilder areas include. · Martin’s Hill slopes. To enhance this locally rare acid grassland habitat, which is mentioned in Bromley council’s Biodiversity Action Plan. This will involve the cutting back of invasive Bramble which is dominating the upper slopes. (Friends & LBB contractors) · Glebe Wood. Create paths and glades in this otherwise overgrown area. (Friends) · College Green. Maintain Mulberry Tree bed (Friends). Cut meadow annually. (LBB contractor) · Dickerson’s Copse. Improving existing hedges, planting native plants and installation of bird nesting boxes.
We currently organise regular working parties on the second Sunday of each month to carry out our tasks. To find when future parties will be taking place go to our Events page. Working parties have continued on each of the above areas.
